Day ninety-one of my forced exile from Cherry’s nursing home and they threw this old dog a little bone today. Cherry and I were allowed to sit outside under a big pecan tree for an hour and visit in person with no window glass between us.
I had to agree to wear one of those in style face masks and practice that silly 6 ft social distance thing but it was one step forward in my battle to be with my wife again. As of right now, I will be able to visit her twice a week for one hour each time.
Cherry slept for most of our short visit but she woke up a few times and gave me a quizzical look and a half smile before going back to sleep. All and all, we had a good visit and I’m already looking forward to our next visit.
I have been warned that this arrangement could be ended if there is a significant spike in Covid-19 cases in Texas. I remain optimistic that this won’t happen.
In my quest for information and my many phone calls in the last week or so, virtually all of the medical people I spoke to and most of the government people I spoke to expect a spike in COVID-19 cases related to the recent mass gathering of thousands of non-social distancing people in the downtown areas of all of the big cities in Texas.
I hope I’m right and they are wrong but I guess we will all know in the next week or so.
